14th tee at Glen Abbey. One of the toughest drives on tour. Photo submitted by Chris5757223 on 02/12/2016
Not worth the price
Bunkers are in horrible condition. It seems that nobody fixes divots in the fairways or ball marks on the greens. I raised my concerns to the pro shop and they didn’t seem to care. The impression I got was that they know people will play there regardless.
fall
Was just after a tournament. But greens had some small pebbles on, surprising for this. Was leaves in rough but expected this time of year.
Interesting round
Being fall the course had lots of leaves in the rough as expected. Two of the greens had some small rocks/pebbles which was surprising. Saw just 1 Marshall once on the course to ensure pace of play was being followed. We finished in regulation time but we had to wait on every shot, so we could have finished quicker with monitored play.
One could always improve!
The greens were true and played fast, like a past Canadian Open course should. However, the extent in which the sand traps have been unmanaged for quite sometime, that leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth after playing this past Canadian Open course. At a rate that is paid to play.this course, all aspects should be above average and not each part of the course such as the sand traps throughout the course are not kept as such.
That should never be allowed to a course with such past history.
Over all review
The greens were excellent, the only sad part about the course is about how the traps have been maintained, extremely sad and pathetic you need to put some labour hours into them they have not been looked out for her for at least a few years now. That is shameful to a course that has held the Canadian Open multiple times
Fair Course
Love the layout. Fall colours are spectacular. This is a very fair course. Get ready for some bunker play!
Prestigious In Name Only
Glen Abbey was always considered a prestigious course to play. That is no longer the case.
The gentleman we were paired with indicated Club Link had considered selling this course for residential development, but has since changed their plans. This initial consideration may explain the condition of the course. The tee boxes were in terrible condition. Fairways and greens for this time of year were pretty good although it’s clear that there are individuals playing the course that have no concept of divot repair, ball mark repair and the raking of bunkers. The carts weren’t in great shape. Ours was very difficult to steer, had a parking break that required creative parking and a flat tire. We stopped at the clubhouse after 9 and they kindly brought a new one out to us.
I am not sorry we played here. We played later in the day and received a good rate. I would leave it a year while the owners commit to it being a first rate golf course and then try it again.
The tees were in terrible shape and the greens were so so everything else was up to par
Overpriced
The course is overpriced. The course condition was poor for the price we paid. The clubhouse was outdated, but clean.
I thought the starter was great, we enjoyed speaking with him and the greeter was patient and polite with us. There was no cart service, but the attendants at the snack shop were rude and I was made to feel like I was interrupting there most important discussion…btw, everything in the snack shop was over priced.
I was eager to play a course with such a rich history, but my overall experience and the value I got for my money was disappointing. There are better priced courses that offer a greater value (eg TPC Osprey Valley) than Glen Abbey…spend your money there.
A must play
I always look forward to my yearly round at the Abbey. Course was in amazing shape despite the weather. Team was super friendly, and helpful.
Slow pace of play
Course was extremely slow because of club championship which led to wait times on every tee deck and on many approach shots.
Played a 5 and a half round on an overbooked day, started on 10. Slowest round of the year
great day
Course was in great shape and we had a spectacular day all around. My only complaint was that they were doing split tees and had us off the 10th which means starting with the difficult valley holes.
Overall I wanted to share an iconic course with my son in case it disappears one day. Mission accomplished.
