One of Muskoka's Most Beautiful Courses
As always, beautifully manicured, picturesque, difficult but fair course. Tee blocks for all player abilities who can usually hit straight even if not long off the tee but course is definitely not for beginners. Lots of huge sheets of Muskoka granite on many holes that add to beauty of course and distance of shot in some direction when you hit the rock.
All staff well trained and friendly. Three of us played and were joined by a young mom and 5 year old for dinner. Restaurant staff also welcoming, gracious and offered a great selection of meals at several price points - even for the descriminating taste of the 5 year old.
We will try to play here several times more before season ends and will cross country ski here if The Rock offers groomed trails again this winter.

Enjoyable Round
Bought an Underpar in December for the course as we go to a cottage the same week in July every year. I understood the restrictions in July August were after 1:00 PM..Cool.
After looking on line for tee times I saw there were a bunch available on the Sunday, when i called to book an open 1:00 PM time i was told i can't use the certificate..Why? Because there was a lunch and play special. So? It says you can't use it for league play or with another offer..Ya I get that, but it's not league play. "We don't have league play, but the special is the equivalent of league play".
I ended up speaking to the director of golf and he was fantastic! He gave me a time before 1:00 PM...That's customer service! Thanks again.
Really enjoyed the course, the conditions were excellent, the layout was great, pace of play was good.
Would play again for sure.
very difficult course
although many of the holes have blind spots, it is enjoyable to play. We found the greens and the pin placements extremely difficult for the average player and would often find our balls rolling off the green onto very short fringe.
it would be helpful for the average player to have a book that said the ball falls to the right or left rather than using words like "fade" etc.
Playing target golf is not my favourite way to play golf, but it was a very good deal mid week.
The Rock. Do we thank Nick (Faldo) or not.
So what can I say about the Rock. I played it yesterday for the third time and always have found the conditions excellent and the greens rolling very true and on the side of fast. But what is with the carnival holes ? - drops of 200 feet and driving into fairways that are sideways, uphill and often very narrow. A test of shotmaking is one thing but I think the Rock takes this a little far.
I had driver , 8 iron into the first hole - a par five. And I had Driver, 3 hybrid into the 3rd hole - a par 4 - the green has no out with a swamp in front ??
Bring extra balls and bug spray for the muskoka nasties.
To thank Nick or to yell at him. ?
Love the challenges
I always enjoy this course. There are no two holes alike and you use all the clubs in the bag on this course. If you can play well here, you can play anywhere.
Great Course in Great Shape
First time playing this course. The course is definitely challenging. If you cant keep the ball straight you are going to hurt badly. Luckily I was hitting it straight. Not an overly long course, but the slope ratings are quite challenging. Putting greens were fast but fair. Once I was able to adjust to the speed of the greens, my putts were going where I aimed. Conditions were very good for this time of year especially with the limited rain we have had.
Very Nice
Not as challenging as feared after reading other reviews. The course will punish you for errors though. if you n=miss the fairway typically your choices are rock, cart path, water, or bunker, with a slight chance of rough.
The beauty of the course far outweighed the fact that it was a little tough. Food was great. Staff was friendly.
There were two major things that annoyed me over anything else with this experience:
1. There was no real ranger, we saw a young girl who came around when we hit the 11th hole (not sure if she was the actual ranger or not). Anyway the startings were a gong show. it was twosome city all backlocked by a large group ahead. there must have been 6 twosomes or more all crammed together it felt very tight. We had to wait for group in front and hope to not get nailed by balls from group behind.
2. many times off the tee where a driver is the club of choice the drive lands out of sight over a hill or around a blind dog leg. on your second shot the group behind doesnt see you and proceeds to drive thinking (or hoping it is clear) I was nearly smoked and had to tell the group behind to give us some space. Seems like a poor design in that respect and no way to signal to group behind when all is clear.
Tough Course to Play
I always enjoy the challenge of The Rock, but I am now playing from the green tees and I struggle to compete. This course is not for the average golfer. Hit it straight, long and not too often and you can score. The lateral hazards, water ponds and rock outcroppings make the scenery excellent but the scoring hard, The clubhouse staff and facilities were great as usual, but a repaired and cleaner washroom off the 10th tee would be nice for the players. We had some huge rain to finish the 16th but headed for the clubhouse for an early dinner. We will try again in 2017 for sure!!!
Play to your handicap
Lots of blind shots and narrow fairways. At my partners insistence we plays from the golds. With our 12 handicaps we should have played greens. Outstanding scenery. Other than the second cut going to seed on the back nine, conditions were great. Can't wait to play it again after having seen the layout.
Out standing track
If your a single digit handicap be ready for a treat. If your an once a week player, bring lots of golf balls. Extremely tough golf course. Not for the average player... Be prepared for a beat down..............Great conditions and Great staff.........
Worth the drive, but too tough for the average golfer...
Enjoy
Worth the drive
I have read about this course since it opened and have always wanted to play. Last week I had an opportunity. It was a great day. The course was a challenge with a lot of carry's and blind shots. It is definitely a course that you need to play twice! The only downfall is it looked like the greens took a hit during the winter. They were very blotchy. I will definitely come back!
great course,
tough course for the average player, but well worth it.
Muskokas best course
Beautiful course, in immaculate condition. Very difficult and challenging for the average golfer but still a very enjoyable round.
Muskoka in the Fall at The Rock
We arrived at 11 am only six cars in the parking lot .At a beatiful club like The Rock ,that gets me excited .Even thou the leaves are mostly down ,the grounds crew are doing a tremendous job of keeping the fairways clear,we never lost one ball in the fairway .The greens were in beautiful shape i loved the fact that they were not running at 13 and maybe only at 11 lol, still very fast.We felt like we owned the club ,never saw a sole we took our time and my partner could not stop saying how beautiful it was and how lucky we were to enjoy the Rock in all its splender we will be BACK!
WHAT A COURSE!!!
I literally had the course to myself. Was offered free range balls and a cup of coffee upon presenting to the Pro Shop. Played a leisurely round in 3 hours due in part to the cart path only rule in effect. I didn't see another golfer the whole time. Despite the deluge the course suffered the night before, the greens ran true and the fairways weren't overly soggy. I had the best round of my season so I definitely can't complain. Beautiful but difficult course. I had to spend a minute with the scorecard to figure out the layout and hazards prior to teeing off. Overall just an awesome experience and I can't wait to get back on a sunny spring day. Highly recommended.
Love it
Played this course 3 days in a row, at the end of September. Sunday was a bit busy, but finished within 4 1/2 hours. Monday and Tuesday, played as a single, finished in about 2 hours. Love it. Beautiful fall colour.
The rock golf
Always enjoy playing this course but I was most impressed with golf now and how fast and easy it was to book.
beautiful Muskoka layout
This is not a course for beginners or those that can't hit it straight. Very tight and a few strangely designed holes, this is target golf for the most part.
You need to pay attention to the tees you play. Don't look at the yardage, look at the slope and pay attention to the recommendation on the score card. This has to be the hardest 6100 yards (white tees) in Ontario.
Course in pristine condition; challenging; picturesque
First time experience for 3 out of 4 players
Would most definitely play again in the near future.
Challenging greens narrow fairways
Excellent condition; rocks on the periphery add an unique touch
Fairways - amazing condition ; a tribute to the course maintenance team
Sand bunkers beautiful white sand (remember we are in Muskoka not Bermuda)
Fantastic overall venue and experience
