Challenging Greens
Course is in great shape. Fairways and greens are a great challenge for not having played in many years.
Nice design but
Played 18 holes Saturday during one of the best summer days we have seen. The course was a little ragged, with furry tee boxes and weeds in the bunkers. Of course putting around goose droppings doesn't help either. This course could be spectacular if maintained but for the price, I'd golf it every day!
Any day golfing is GREAT
Once we left highway 16 we found it hard because of a lack of signage to find the course. We finally found it in time to tee off at our 9:00 am reservation time.
Was impressed with the number of staff working the course and their friendly attitude. Horse flies were a pain but otherwise a we had a great round.
Would recommend the course to all levels of golfers.
Afternoon well spent
25$ for 18. Awesome
25$ per cart seat . Not so awesome
**users beware**
I understand i still saved money because a round on the weekend with cart is 66$ + GSt.
The website clearly says 32$ for a cart for 18 which is 16$ a seat. The gentlemen in the pro shop werent even accomodating towards that.
Fairways were rough in some spots and the greens had taken a beating with what seemed like no one fixing their ball marks. When this course is maintained its one heck of a course regardless of the average customer service that comes with it.
Go there to golf and dont expect much as far as service goes.
The greens have improved
The greens are growing and not too many dead spots. Bunkers were good( lots of rain), fairways were good.
A hidden gem
We arrived early and got out ahead of time even though they didn't have our reservation. Fortunately the course wasn't busy so we were able to play around in 4 hours, one group let us play through, unheard of these days! Being the second time on the course we knew our way and the enjoyment level increased. Some of the fairways are suffering from winter kill but overall the condition was great. I lost a ball on a par 3 hole 13 after landing short left near a wet patch under repair. Probably plugged but no chance with the long grass and soft turf.
All in all a good experience. We'll be back!
This course has great potential.
We enjoy playing this course and appreciate the good prices when playing in a group. It has interesting holes and is located in a nice area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating which adds to the great potential of this course. One negative comment is the prices of food and particularly beverages are expensive.
Early Season conditions
Still some winter kill on the fairways and greens but overall in good condition. Really like that they are rolling the greens. There could be more directional signs (Ie from #7 to get to #8). #9 is a blind shot dogleg right that needs a gong of some sort so that players teeing off know they can hit over the hill that blocks the right side of the fairway. Weather was awful (rain and 2 club wind) so we stopped after 9 holes. Looking forward to going back though.
Good track, needs better care
I recommend this course because it's a RTJ Sr. design and it really has a good variety of holes. It really is a good track (and a long walk). Choose your tee box (and club selection) wisely and you'll enjoy the challenge. But when I played, the tee boxes were overgrown by weeds, and dry. Greens were good. I hope they don't let this course deteriorate like they did at Indian Lakes (now closed). Ownership needs to put some money and elbow grease into the course, and maintain it like it was originally intended to be. It really has the potential to be a great course.
Ok Course
The course is a little rough all around interesting track though helps to know it a bit some blind shots.
Easy from the whites if you watch your club selection off the tee.
17 always plays longer than you think.
Worth Checking Out
Overall the course was in very good condition. Course suitable for all levels, especially for intermediate level golfer. Greens in excellent shape; some fairway issues. Good value for the experience. Worth the drive.
greens were in really good shape
thought it would be busier on mothers day. the course itself was in good shape. the tee boxes could use some work but were ok. the fairways were also in good shape. the greens were in really good shape, a few spots that will get better as the season progresses. found them a bit slow. range balls were old and had to hit off of mats.
Great track, poorly run
Course is worth the trip from Edmonton, but make sure they will honour your tee time. Claimed they don't have to keep golfnow tee times, tried to move our group by an hour and a half.
A great course for alll levels
Greens ate in excellent shape and its a great course. well worth the money and the drive out thrte from Edmonton
Great Course
Ironhead is a great course and very challenging, Greens were in good shape accept for one of them.
Some of hole are eeally nice view lot of tree
Some of hole are eeally nice view lot of tree some green need little attention
Great Course with Challenging Holes
The course is located approx. 50 minutes away from Edmonton. The layout of the course is excellent and it provides enough troubles for an average golfer. The course is in good shape but some sections in the cart path need attention. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We booked through Golf Now and paid only $ 24.00 PP including cart. Edmonton area golfers are really fortunate to play in a very good course paying this kind of money. This course is highly recommended to any golfer looking for a different experience with your golf game.
My favorite Course in the area
Ironhead continues to be my favorite course in this region since I first played it over 10 years ago. It's definitely a driver's course, as the fairways are generous but not easy and you are rewarded for keeping your ball in the lush, well cared for fairways. The greens, which are large and inviting, are always well kept and putt very true. Most every hole is visually pleasing to the golfers eye as the designer took full advantage of the contours and natural beauty of the land's rugged terrain by Lake Wabamun. Good separation between holes also means it's a wonderfully quiet course to play, even when it is crowded. There are certainly more high end, pristine courses around (which are also all much more expensive), but I would say that Ironhead rivals every public course I have played in and around the Capital Region for beauty, challenge and value.
A championship rated course.
Course is in VG condition ,well maintained ,and as challenging as you wish to play it from either of the three tees.A bit of a drive but certainly worth the drive for the setting.
Tough test!
Every hole has challenges. If you are a low handicapper try the back tees for a true test of your skill. The course is in good shape and could be great with a bit of work. It is about a 35 minutes drive from Edmonton but well worth it!
